Introducing the FBI Method: A Revolutionary Oral Hygiene Routine
At Beltline Dental Care, we are dedicated to providing our patients with the best advice and techniques to maintain a healthy smile. To help achieve this, we have developed an easy-to-remember acronym for a comprehensive oral hygiene routine: FBI (Floss, Brush, Irrigate). All it takes is 5-6 minutes every night before you sleep. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of each step in the FBI method and how incorporating it into your daily routine can lead to improved oral health and a sparkling smile.
The FBI Method: Floss, Brush, Irrigate
Floss: The first step in the FBI method involves quickly flossing your teeth. Flossing is essential for removing plaque and loosening large food debris that can become lodged between your teeth and under your gumline. (Approximately 1 min)
Brush: The next step in the FBI method is brushing your teeth. Brushing helps remove plaque and bacteria from the surface of your teeth, preventing cavities and bad breath. Don’t forget to brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath! (Approximately 2.5 mins)
Irrigate: The final step in the FBI method is irrigation, which involves using the Waterpik water flosser to clean between your teeth and along your gumline. This step is crucial for maintaining gum health and removing any remaining debris that brushing and flossing may have missed. The Waterpik is clinically proven to remove up to 99.9% of plaque from treated areas, making it more effective than traditional string floss. (Approximately 2.5 mins)
Using a Waterpik is simple and easy:
1. Fill the reservoir with warm water and place it securely onto the base.
2. Select your preferred pressure setting, starting at a lower setting and gradually increasing as needed.
3. Lean over the sink and place the tip in your mouth, keeping your lips slightly closed to prevent splashing.
4. Turn on the Waterpik and guide the tip along your gumline, pausing briefly between each tooth to allow the water to flush away debris.
5. Empty any remaining water from the reservoir after use and clean the device as recommended by the manufacturer.
